A tight-knit group of outdoor enthusiast friends, haunted by personal demons and strained relationships, embark on a hike through the rugged Ozark foothills to bury the cremated remains of one of their comrades.
As they travel deep into the forest, tensions that have simmered beneath the surface begin to rise. Old wounds and unspoken grievances threaten to unravel the bonds they once held dear.
But their personal conflicts take a backseat when they begin hearing the growls that resonate through the darkness. What began as a simple mission quickly transforms into a nightmare as the group realizes they’re not alone.
Something is with them in the sticks . . . and it wants to draw blood in a most gruesome fashion.

Every series has an origin point. Sometimes it begins with a carefully mapped first novel. Other times, it starts as a spark — an early tale that plants the seeds of something bigger.
That’s what In the Sticks is for Odd Fellow’s Lot.
This novelette isn’t the “official” first book of the series. The main stories unfolds later, in novels that build the town and its shadows into something sprawling. But In the Sticks carries the bloodline. It’s the first story I ever wrote that mentions Odd Fellow’s Lot by name, and the first time a character from the series stepped onto the page.
Because of that, In the Sticks is connected — related. It’s the progenitor, the piece of fiction that, without me realizing it at the time, cracked the door open to the world of Odd Fellow’s Lot.
